Update...new pictures coming soon!

I apologize that I haven't had updated the site in a few days. We were out of town until Sunday evening visiting with family and attending the funeral of our Uncle Skip. It was a very bittersweet weekend. It is always hard to say good-bye to someone you love, but it was great to get to spend time with all of our family over in Georgia. We got to see some family members that I haven't seen in over 20 something years. It is unfortunate that we wait for a tragedy to reconnect with our family.
I will have some new pictures posted from this weekend this evening....hopefully!
Let me tell you some of the funny things from the funeral. First of all, when I told Dylan that Uncle Skip had died his reaction was "Oh man....and he just got a new video game for Christmas too". Then he preceded to explain "that is why is just doesn't pay to get new video games when you are old....you don't get to play them for very long before you die". Oh the wisdom of an 8 year old.
Riley has had this thing lately with death, graves, etc. (remember the previous post about Grandpa). Not that he is weird or anything....he is just trying to figure it all out....something even I haven't done....and death just doesn't make sense to him. He asked several questions about Uncle Skip...where he was....how he would be buried...etc. I tried to explain to him that Uncle Skip wouldn't be buried because he was cremated. That threw a whole new kink into his thought process. Try to explain that to a 5 y/o.
All in all we had a terrific weekend and I was sad to see it come to an end. I hope that we all get together again sometime soon....without a funeral being the reason for the gathering.

In Loving Memory of our Uncle Skip

It is with great sadness that I share with you the passing of our dear Uncle Skip. Uncle Skip left this world this morning and is now in a better place. This picture was taken just a few weeks ago and who knew that would be that last time we got to spend with him. If I can only stress to you all the importance of pictures to document your family history. Also, always remember to tell those dear to you how much you love them....you never know when it will be the last. We are so thankful that we got to spend time with Uncle Skip over the Christmas holidays! We will be out of town for the next few days for the funeral, but I will update again when we get back home.

Riley's Red Barrette

One more Riley story....can you stand it!! Monday night we were at Taylor's basketball game sitting up in the bleachers and Riley comes up to me and declares "mom...I got a ka-prise for you". He starts digging deep in his pockets and all of you mom's with boys (or tomboys) know what that means. You are never surprised at what comes out of their pockets. Riley being the third boy has a hard time surprising me as I feel like I have already seen it all. Boys can carry anything from dead birds, "beautiful" rocks, frogs, snakes, and much more in those little pockets of there's. I can tell you that from experience!!!! This time he got me though...he pulls out of his pocket this "beautiful" red little girls barrette. He proudly tells me how he found it at the playground earlier today and saved it just for me because "you are the bestest mom ever". So I ooh and awe over like a good mom should all the while trying not to imagine where this thing has been. Then he says, "mom, just sit still for a minute and I will put it in your hair". YIKES!! How do you get out of that one??? I finally explained to him that it was so special that I really need to save it for a special day when I am wearing something red to match. Now off to Wal-mart I go, to find the closest match to this red barrette because I can assure you the next time I am wearing red his little eyes will be looking for that red barrette.

A Little Boy's Answered Prayer

Got a cute story for you all! This is a picture of the note Riley wrote Monday evening. No...I didn't mess up taking this picture...I actually think Riley might be somewhat Dyslexic. He must be following in his dad's footsteps. Dylan said we should just pass the note to a Japanese person because the read from right to left anyways. Hmm...maybe Riley has future in Japan. Okay..to decipher for you...it says.."God can you heal our cat". Here's what happened...our well loved little kitty...Spanky...went missing from our home on Thursday evening. We searched for him all weekend with no success. The boys prayed that he would come back home to us, but mom & dad had pretty much given up hope of seeing this little furball once again. Riley is the "prayer leader" at his school this week and had his entire preschool class praying for Spanky. Well wouldn't you know that Monday evening, in the midst of a storm, here comes our little kitten dragging himself in through the kitty door. His head was quite swollen and he was a bloody mess (sorry...I know it's gross). We wrapped him in towels to dry him off and got him some "kitty soup" (aka wet cat food) which is his all time favorite meal. He tried to eat, but couldn't do it. We put him in the bathroom wrapped in towels and left him for the night. In the morning he was taken to the vet to find out what was wrong with him. Well, the vet called today while I was a work and told me what a miracle this little guy was. You are not going to believe this, but Spankys throat had been cut from ear to ear. The doctor said he could not believe that this cat was still alive...had he been a human or a dog he would have never made it. The vet said he cannot believe that this cat was able to make it back home to us....this was truly a miracle. I am positive that God heard the prayers of our little boys. The good news is that Spanky is recovering quite well. He is still in the kitty hospital and has had surgery today to fix him up, but the doctor said this little miracle kitten is going to be just fine.

How Did Grandpa Get to Heaven??

Just had to post this one real quick because my mother and my in-laws will get a laugh out of it. On our way home from school today, Riley is quietly riding in the back seat when begins to tell me about some balloons that he released at school today. He says "mom, how will grandpa get them back down from heaven for me?" I explained to him that grandpa would just hold on to them share them with some little kids up there. Then my little thinker says, "mom, how did grandpa get up to heaven after we buried him in the ground?". Okay...how do you explain that to a five year old?? I tried my best to explain that grandpa's soul was in heaven and that he went up there before we buried him in the ground. He say's "you know mom, that is just a hard question for a little kid to understand". Then he exclaims, "well that's good because I thought God dug grandpa up, stood him up and took him up to heaven...the God put all the dirt back on the ground so that we would just think that grandpa was still in the ground". Boy...do I feel sorry for his teacher next year... ha ha!!!!

Naked in Mom's Boots

Okay...no pictures for this post! Even though I was very tempted to take a picture, my better sense wouldn't let me do it. This morning as I was in my bathroom getting ready to go to work I hear this "clomping" of little feet coming up behind me. Then I hear Riley say "mom, how do I look NAKED in these boots?". I spin around to see my little 5 year old standing there buck naked with nothing but my black boots on which come half way up his thighs. What do you say????? I couldn't come up with anything good to say and I just started laughing....at which point he proceeds to declare..."mom, this really disturbs me". Disturbs him.....what about his poor mom....ha ha!

Taylor's Sports Banquet

Thursday evening we had a sport banquet/dance at Taylor's school. The parents got to stay for the awards part, then the kids booted us out for the dancing. Taylor's basketball team won the City Championship this year by beating out their number one rival by one point! It was an awesome game! We are very proud of Taylor and how far he has advanced with his basketball playing! Okay...I will admit...this is a horrible picture. I am sure I probably didn't have the camera on the right setting and this is the only one that turned out half-way decent out of 10 shots...(sorry Kim). See if you can find Taylor in this shot...hint...he is the tallest blonde haired boy there...topping out at 6'1". Next time maybe Jeff won't be flying nights and will be along to work the camera!

Cousin-in-Law

Cousin-in-laws....if that is really the term. This is me and Brian (my cousin Michelle's husband). We were laughing at Michelle trying to take the picture of us. After several attempts she finally got it right!

Cousins are So Much Fun

Riley loves this picture of him and his cousin and asked that I please put it up here on the Blog. It was so nice to get to go spend time with our family over in Georgia during the Christmas holidays!

Christmas 2005

This is the boyz Christmas picture taken in front of our fireplace. As you can imagine with three boyz it takes lots of patience to get one good picture!!
